CD face question

I have never seen any US or Japanese CD faces, except for a few 'promo'
releases.

It has been my experience, that the UK ones always have a nice
painted design on them, compared with their German releases (which usually only
have the tracks printed on them).

Does this hold true for the US or Japanese releases (or any others)?
